The numbers are in! We rallied from around the world, giving back and paying-it-forward for all students. Because of the incredible efforts of our Biola community and our generous challenge donors, we have accomplished an unprecedented feat. Thank you for playing a key role in the effort to subsidize Biola’s world-class biblically centered and academically rich education For All Students.
Four years ago, Joseph sat in Myers Hall. His first class at Biola was about to begin when the Professor opened in prayer. It felt foreign, “we can do that here?!” thought Joseph in wonder. Having grown up in the public school system and now being at a Christian college surrounded by people of shared faith has profoundly impacted Joseph’s personal and spiritual growth.
Joseph hails from Chula Vista, California, one of San Diego’s largest cities. Growing up in a city with rich diversity laid the foundation for Joseph’s interest in the intersection of culture, society, social systems, and worldview. That interest was strengthened as his family hosted church missionaries and he heard their stories of life on the mission field. It also grew through helping out in orphanages run by his church, and by gaining a brother and sister through cross-cultural adoption when he was 10.
Today, Joseph is a Senior Anthropology major with a double minor in Communication and Biblical Studies. Through his education at Biola, Joseph is being equipped to pursue his interest in Anthropology as he integrates it with teaching. “I want to hear and tell people’s stories to help incite change and I want to do that through teaching,” he says. However, a college degree didn’t always seem within reach for Joseph.
